The Nilgiris, or the Blue Mountains, in Tamil Nadu are home to some of India's most fragrant and aromatic teas. Nestled in the Western Ghats at elevations between 1000 and 2500 metres, the tea gardens benefit from a unique microclimate that produces teas with a bright, brisk liquor and a delicate, fragrant character.

Nilgiri teas are known for their light, clean flavor profile making them ideal for iced tea and blending. The high altitude and cool climate produce teas that are intensely aromatic with a smooth, well-rounded taste. The region produces both CTC and orthodox varieties, with the orthodox teas being particularly prized for their floral notes.

Nilgiri tea is a registered Geographical Indication (GI), recognized for the unique qualities imparted by the terroir of the Blue Mountains.

Tea Attributes: Nilgiri tea produces a bright, golden-amber liquor with a fragrant aroma and a smooth, delicate taste. It is lighter than Assam tea but more full-bodied than Darjeeling, making it an excellent standalone brew or a perfect base for blending.
