Bihar Tea

GI Protected Tea Region of India

Bihar is an emerging tea-producing state in India, with cultivation primarily concentrated in the Kishanganj district in the north-eastern corner of the state. The region's proximity to Darjeeling and similar agro-climatic conditions have proven conducive to tea cultivation.

Tea cultivation in Bihar has been growing steadily, with the state government actively promoting it as a viable crop for the region. The teas produced here share some characteristics with their Darjeeling and Dooars neighbours, but have their own distinctive earthy notes and full body.

Bihar tea received its Geographical Indication (GI) tag, recognizing the unique qualities imparted by the terroir of the Kishanganj and Mithila regions.
